Upper Endoscopy With Full Ultrasound Survey

Vermont rates for HCPCS 43259

A flexible camera with an ultrasound probe on its tip is passed through the mouth to inspect the food pipe, stomach and first part of the small intestine, and to see through their walls into nearby structures such as the pancreas, bile duct and lymph nodes. The ultrasound survey covers the whole upper tract rather than a single area, which is why it is used for staging and for sorting out unexplained findings. No tissue sample is taken as part of it.
