Ultrasound-Guided Injection Through the Gut Wall

Vermont rates for HCPCS 43253

A scope with an ultrasound probe at its tip is passed through the mouth into the stomach and the first part of the small intestine. Guided by the ultrasound picture, a fine needle is passed through the wall of the gut to inject medicine into nearby structures, or to place tiny markers that later guide radiation treatment. The scope shows the target directly, so nothing has to be reached through the skin.
