Esophagus Scope With Tissue Sample

A flexible scope is passed through the mouth into the esophagus, the tube that carries food from the throat to the stomach, and one or more small pieces of tissue are pinched off for examination. The samples are sent to a laboratory and looked at under a microscope. It is used to work out the cause of swallowing trouble, heartburn, pain or an abnormal-looking lining.
