Rigid Esophagus Scope With Balloon Widening

Vermont rates for HCPCS 43195

A rigid, non-bending scope is passed through the mouth into the esophagus, and a balloon is inflated inside a narrowed section to stretch it open. Widening the passage makes swallowing easier when scarring or a tight ring has narrowed the food pipe. General anesthesia is normally used because of the rigid scope.
