Removes and reshapes tissue at the back of the throat, including the soft palate and the dangling uvula, and tightens the throat walls so the airway stays open during sleep. It is done for obstructive sleep apnea and heavy snoring caused by tissue collapsing into the airway. The tonsils are often taken out at the same time.
