Draining an Abscess in the Floor of the Mouth

Wyoming rates for HCPCS 41008

Drains a collection of pus, fluid or blood from one of the deep tissue spaces in the floor of the mouth, beneath the tongue and jaw. An incision is made over the collection so it can empty, the space is washed out, and a small drain may be left in for a day or two. Swelling here can push the tongue up and narrow the airway, so it is dealt with urgently, usually alongside antibiotics.
