This procedure makes a small cut to release the band of tissue, called the frenulum, that connects the inside of the upper or lower lip to the gum. Releasing this tissue can relieve tightness that pulls on the gum, interferes with feeding in infants, or affects the fit of dental work such as dentures. It is a brief procedure usually done with local numbing.
