Repair of a Long-Standing Diaphragm Tear

Pennsylvania rates for HCPCS 39541

Repairs a tear in the diaphragm, the sheet of muscle between the chest and abdomen, caused by an earlier injury and found some time after the event rather than at the time of the trauma. Abdominal organs that have pushed up into the chest are brought back down and the defect is closed, with a mesh or patch if the gap is large. Older tears are stiffer and often stuck to surrounding tissue, making the repair more involved.
