Collection of a Patient's Own Blood-Forming Stem Cells

Mississippi rates for HCPCS 38206

A procedure that collects blood-forming stem cells from a patient's own bloodstream so they can be stored and later given back to the same patient after high-dose treatment such as chemotherapy. The cells are typically collected using a machine that draws blood, separates out the stem cells, and returns the rest of the blood to the body. This approach is called autologous collection because the patient is both the donor and the eventual recipient.
