Places a long, thin tube into a vein in the arm and threads it so its tip sits in a large vein near the heart, with the other end joined to a small chamber tucked under the skin of the arm. Medicines, fluids and blood draws then go through a needle inserted into that chamber, avoiding repeated vein sticks. This version is used in older children and adults.
