Placement of a Long-Term IV Line Through the Arm

Michigan rates for HCPCS 36569

Places a long, thin catheter into a vein in the arm and advances it until the tip sits in a large vein close to the heart. Once in place it allows medicines, fluids, nutrition or repeated blood samples to be given over weeks or months without fresh needle sticks each time. It is done under local anesthetic in a treatment room or at the bedside, and the line is secured to the skin with a dressing.
