Vein Closure Using Medical Adhesive, First Vein

North Carolina rates for HCPCS 36482

This procedure closes off a diseased, malfunctioning vein in an arm or leg, often a varicose vein, by injecting a medical adhesive (a type of glue) into the vein through a catheter, causing it to seal shut and be reabsorbed by the body over time. It treats the first vein addressed in that limb during the session; additional veins are billed separately. It's done using imaging guidance and doesn't require heat or a separate anesthetic injection along the entire vein.
