Exchange Transfusion For A Newborn

Rhode Island rates for HCPCS 36450

Small amounts of a newborn baby's blood are drawn off and replaced with donor blood, over and over, until most of the baby's blood has been exchanged. This clears harmful substances such as bilirubin or antibodies while keeping the blood volume steady. It is used for severe newborn jaundice or blood incompatibility that light therapy cannot control.
