A thin tube is threaded from an artery in the groin or wrist up into one of the neck arteries feeding the brain on one side, contrast dye is injected, and rapid pictures are taken as it flows through the vessels inside the skull. It is used to look for narrowing, a blockage, an aneurysm, or a tangle of abnormal vessels.
