Urgent surgery to pull a blood clot or other blockage out of an artery at and below the knee. Through an incision in the leg the surgeon opens the artery and passes a balloon-tipped tube beyond the clot, then withdraws it to sweep the blockage out and restore blood flow to the lower leg and foot.
