Implanting A Heart Pump Inside The Body

Vermont rates for HCPCS 33979

Places a mechanical pump inside the chest to help one of the heart's lower chambers push blood out to the body, with a thin cable passing through the skin to a controller and batteries worn outside. The chest is opened and a heart-lung machine takes over the circulation while the pump is attached to the heart and the main artery. It supports people with severe heart failure, either long term or while they wait for a transplant.
