Taking out a large tube that has been carrying blood to and from an external heart-lung support machine, where the tube sits in a vessel in the neck or groin and is withdrawn through the skin puncture it was placed through. Pressure or a closure device is used to seal the vessel afterwards. No surgical opening of the vessel is required.
