The medical team's day-by-day management of a patient supported by an external machine that adds oxygen to the blood and removes carbon dioxide, with blood drawn from a vein and returned to a vein. The patient's own heart continues to do the pumping. This covers one day of adjusting flows, gas settings, blood thinning and monitoring, and is charged for each day support continues.
