Starting ECMO Support For The Heart And Lungs

Ohio rates for HCPCS 33947

Starts extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, known as ECMO, in the setup where blood is drawn from a vein, passed through a machine that adds oxygen and removes carbon dioxide, and returned into an artery. Because it is returned into the arterial side under pressure, the machine takes over pumping work as well as the work of the lungs. It covers the physician work of getting the circuit running and stable.
