A fabric-covered stent graft is guided up through the blood vessels and opened inside the aorta as it runs down through the chest, lining a section whose wall is bulging, torn, or damaged so blood no longer presses on it. It covers the first device placed plus any extension pieces needed to reach down as far as the branch that supplies the liver and stomach. The imaging and measuring needed to size and position the graft are part of the procedure.
