Replaces a widened stretch of the aorta spanning both the chest and the abdomen with a fabric tube graft, working through a long incision along the side of the chest that continues onto the abdomen. Arteries feeding the abdominal organs and the spinal cord are reconnected to the graft as part of the repair. It is one of the largest operations performed on blood vessels.
