Replacement of the first part of the curved arch of the main artery leaving the heart, done alongside repair of the segment below it, with the branch vessels to the head and arms isolated and controlled. The body is cooled and the circulation briefly stopped so the surgeon can shape the new graft where the arch begins. It is charged in addition to the main aortic repair it accompanies.
