Tying Off An Abnormal Vessel Connection Near The Heart

Idaho rates for HCPCS 33820

Closes a blood vessel connection between two major arteries near the heart that should have sealed itself shortly after birth, known as a patent ductus arteriosus. The surgeon closes it by tying it off with a suture and leaving it in place, rather than cutting through it, so blood again flows normally between the heart and the lungs. It is most often done in infants and children, though it can be done at other ages.
