Cleaning Out a Heart Artery During Bypass Surgery

Delaware rates for HCPCS 33572

During heart bypass surgery, one of the heart's own arteries is opened along its length and the hardened, fatty plaque lining it is stripped out, so blood can flow through it and a graft can be attached. It is done for each artery treated this way and is billed in addition to the bypass operation itself. It is used where the vessel is so heavily diseased that a graft alone would not restore flow.
