Widens the narrowed channel through which blood leaves the right side of the heart on its way to the lungs, by sewing in a patch of material to enlarge it. Thickened muscle within that channel may be trimmed and a tight valve opened during the same operation. It is open-heart surgery, usually for a narrowing present from birth.
