Replaces the aortic valve, the outlet valve of the heart, with a tissue valve that has no supporting frame, so it sits in the aortic root much as a natural valve does. The chest is opened and a heart-lung machine takes over the circulation while the diseased valve is cut out and the new one sewn in. A frameless valve leaves more of the opening free for blood to flow through.
