Aortic Valve Replacement Through the Aorta

Michigan rates for HCPCS 33365

Replacement of a narrowed aortic heart valve with an artificial valve that is folded onto a catheter, pushed into position and expanded inside the old valve, which is left in place. In this version the surgeon reaches the aorta directly through an opening in the breastbone or the upper chest and introduces the delivery system into the aorta itself, rather than traveling up from a vessel in the groin or arm. The heart keeps beating throughout and is not opened.
