Implanting A Pressure Sensor In A Lung Artery

Oregon rates for HCPCS 33289

A small wireless sensor is placed inside an artery in the lung by threading a catheter through a vein, usually from the groin, up through the heart. Once in place the sensor measures the pressure in that artery and sends readings to an external unit, so a care team can follow rising pressures from a distance. It is used in heart failure to catch fluid build-up before it causes a hospital admission.
