Closure Of The Heart's Left Atrial Appendage

Vermont rates for HCPCS 33269

Closes off the left atrial appendage, a small pouch on the upper left chamber of the heart where blood can pool and form clots. Sealing the pouch, by stapling, clipping, tying, or cutting it off, reduces the chance of a clot traveling to the brain and causing a stroke. It is a surgical procedure on the heart rather than a catheter treatment.
