Opening The Sac Around The Heart To Remove A Clot

Maine rates for HCPCS 33020

Opens the pericardium, the sac surrounding the heart, through a surgical incision so a blood clot or a foreign object trapped inside it can be taken out. Solid material in this space stops the heart filling properly and cannot simply be drained away. The sac may be left partly open afterwards so fluid does not build up again.
