Replacement of one of a patient's lungs with a donor lung, carried out without putting the patient on the heart-lung machine, so the other lung and the patient's own heart keep the circulation going throughout. The diseased lung is removed and the donor lung's airway and blood vessels are joined to the patient's. It is offered for end-stage lung disease when one side can be left in place.
