Closing A Chest Wall Opening After Drainage

South Carolina rates for HCPCS 32810

Closes a surgical opening in the chest wall that was deliberately left open earlier to drain a severe infection from the space around the lung. Once the infection has cleared and the cavity is clean, the surgeon cleans it out again, fills or obliterates the remaining space, and closes the chest wall in layers. It is done under general anesthesia and completes a course of treatment that has usually run for weeks or months.
