Puts medicine that breaks down thick, stringy infected fluid into the space around the lung through a drainage tube already in place, on a later day of the same course of treatment. The medicine loosens pockets of fluid so the tube can drain them. It is used when infected fluid around the lung has become too thick or divided into pockets to drain on its own.
