Ultrasound-Guided Lymph Node Sampling in the Chest

Vermont rates for HCPCS 31653

A flexible scope carrying a small ultrasound probe is passed through the mouth or nose into the airways, letting the doctor see lymph nodes and other structures that lie just beyond the airway wall and steer a needle into them while watching in real time. Cells are drawn out and sent to the laboratory, most often to work out whether a cancer has spread or to explain enlarged nodes seen on a scan. How many separate node areas are sampled determines which version of the service applies.
