Placing One-Way Valves In A Lung Section

Vermont rates for HCPCS 31647

Using a flexible scope passed through the mouth or nose into the airways, the doctor tests for air leaks, measures the airway with a balloon, and places small one-way valves in one section of the lung. The valves let trapped air escape but not return, so a damaged or leaking part of the lung can deflate. It is used for severe emphysema and for air leaks that will not seal.
