A thin lighted scope is passed through the mouth or nose into the breathing tubes, and thick secretions, mucus plugs or pus are suctioned out to reopen blocked airways. It is done for a collapsed lung segment, a lung abscess or secretions the patient cannot cough up. This covers the first such clean-out; further sessions are billed separately.
