Uses a rigid scope passed through the mouth into the voice box, with a microscope or telescope for magnification, to lift the lining of the vocal cord and remove a growth from beneath it while sparing the surface. The area is then repaired so the cord can vibrate normally again. It is done under general anesthetic, usually for a hoarse or weak voice.
