Passes a rigid scope through the mouth into the voice box while the patient is asleep, and removes a growth from the vocal cords or the epiglottis, or strips away an abnormal surface layer from the cords. It is used for hoarseness caused by polyps, nodules, thickened lining or other growths, and the tissue removed is examined in the laboratory.
