A thin scope is passed through the nostril and a balloon is used to stretch open the natural drainage openings of the frontal sinus above the eyes and the sphenoid sinus deeper behind the nose. Widening those openings lets trapped mucus drain and relieves repeated or lingering sinus infection. Very little tissue is cut or removed.
