An operation on the frontal sinus, the air space in the forehead above the eyes, reached by lifting a section of the forehead bone as a hinged flap. The surgeon clears disease from inside the sinus, then lays the bone back and secures it, leaving the sinus open so it can drain naturally afterwards. It is used for long-standing infection, a mucus-filled sac, or a growth.
