An operation on the frontal sinus, the air space in the forehead above the eyes, in which a section of forehead bone is temporarily lifted as a hinged flap to open the sinus. The lining is stripped out and the cavity is filled in so it can no longer collect mucus or become infected, and the bone is then replaced. It is used for long-standing infection, a mucus-filled sac, or a growth.
