Flushes the sphenoid sinus, an air pocket set deep in the skull behind the nasal cavity, by passing a thin tube into it and rinsing it out. Trapped infected material is cleared away and a sample can be sent for laboratory testing. It is done when infection in that sinus does not settle with medication alone.
