Keyhole surgery of the hip in which extra bone at the top of the thigh bone, where the ball meets the neck, is shaved back to a normal rounded contour. That bump catches against the rim of the socket as the hip bends and turns, causing groin pain and damage to the cartilage. A camera and instruments are passed through small punctures while the joint is gently held open.
