A small camera and instruments are inserted into the ankle joint through tiny incisions, and inflamed lining, loose cartilage or scar tissue is trimmed away from part of the joint. This is the more limited clean-out; when abnormal tissue has to be cleared from a wider area of the joint, a more extensive version is performed instead. Most people go home the same day.
