Through small cuts at the front of the knee, a camera is used to view the joint while the tight band of tissue on the outer side of the kneecap is divided. Releasing it allows the kneecap to sit and glide centrally in its groove instead of being pulled off to one side. It is done for kneecap pain and poor tracking that has not settled with physical therapy.
