Hip Keyhole Surgery to Remove a Loose Body

Vermont rates for HCPCS 29861

A camera and fine instruments are passed into the hip joint through small punctures, and a loose fragment of bone or cartilage — or another foreign object — floating in the joint is located and taken out. Such fragments can catch between the ball and socket, causing pain, clicking, and sudden locking. Because the joint is not opened widely, recovery is generally quicker than after open surgery.
