This surgery frees up multiple extensor tendons on the top of the foot, which lift the toes upward, when they have become bound down by scar tissue and cannot glide normally. The surgeon carefully separates each tendon from the surrounding scarred tissue so it can move freely again. This is done after an injury, prior surgery, or inflammation has caused the tendons to stick in place.
