Revision of a Below-Knee Amputation

Vermont rates for HCPCS 27886

A second operation on a leg that has already been amputated below the knee, in which the end of the limb is opened and bone and soft tissue are trimmed back to healthy, well-covered levels. It is done when the original stump has failed to heal, has become infected, or is shaped so that it cannot take a prosthetic limb comfortably. The goal is a stump that heals soundly and tolerates a socket.
