Below-Knee Amputation

Connecticut rates for HCPCS 27880

Removes the lower leg through the two shin bones, leaving a stump below the knee that can later be fitted with an artificial limb. Muscle and skin flaps are shaped to pad the cut end of the bone and the wound is closed at the same operation. Keeping the knee joint makes walking with a prosthesis considerably easier.
