Fusion of the Joint Between the Two Leg Bones

Vermont rates for HCPCS 27871

Fuses the joint where the shin bone and the slender outer bone of the lower leg meet — either up near the knee or down at the ankle — so the two grow together and stop moving against each other. It is used when that joint has been disrupted or has become painfully unstable, most often after injury. The surfaces are prepared and held with screws or a plate while they knit.
